My late husband and I visited Rhodes many times, and a trip up to Monte Smith was one of the first things we did. One year we actually stayed within 10 minutes walk of the marvelous ancient remains. I have been back a few times since my husband,s death, but alas my flying days are now over, and I do not travel very far from home. But I still have wonderful memories.

Monte Smith is well worth a visit, the serene atmosphere of the stadium really gives wings to ones imagination. The place is in great shape, and as an added bonus you get quite nice views on your way up. And now there has even been reports of colossus been standing on Monte Smith instead of harbour, so you can imagine the stadium overlooked by a giant brazen statue whilst athletes battle for their honours, and quite possibly even for their lives. That really is something!
