RHODES RHODES TOWN Rhodes city tour

For a proper introduction to the Town of Rhodes, a guided tour is a must. The Old City is an impressive fortress lying within medieval walls, built by the Knights of St. John and you will stroll along the street named after them. Here are many famous Inns of the Crusaders. You will also be able to admire the Palace of the Grand Masters, mosques and houses of eastern design, and the gaily decorated shops in Socrates Street. Whilst driving through the New Town, you will see Mandraki Harbor, which used to be the ancient port of Rhodes, at the entrance of which the Colossus of Rhodes is purported to have stood. The jetty has three windmills and a 15th century tower, which is now a lighthouse. A short drive brings you to the summit of Monte Smith, where stand the Acropolis, the Stadium and the Temple of Apollo, all dating back to the 2nd century BC.
